New hydro-power station unit operational in China's Yunnan Province

BBC Monitoring Asia Pacific,

June 12, 2003

The No 5 generating unit with a capacity of 225,000 kW has gone into operation Thursday [12 June] at the Dachaoshan hydroelectric power station in Yunnan Province, southwest China.

Located in western Yunnan on the Mekong River, the Dachaoshan hydroelectric power station constitutes one of western China's key construction projects.

The project, which has a pricetag of 8.87bn yuan (over 1.06bn US dollars), will include six generating units of this type. The first unit started operating on 26 December 2001, and all five units are now operational.

The additional unit will help enhance the province's ability to provide more electricity for the region as well as for the developed eastern China. TOP
